The story of this place
Brandsby opened in June 1964 and reported to the Royal Observer Corps headquarters at York until September 1991. Its working room was buried beneath an earth covering, with fittings above ground serving the instruments.
The post gathered local information for a much wider network. Reports could be compared at York with readings from other places. Its importance came partly from that connection, rather than the size of the structure itself.
