The story of this place
The building served the Hambleton night decoy. Historic England cites records from August 1941 and August 1942. Lights were used to make the site resemble an active airfield after dark, drawing attention from the real station.
The shelter combined operating space, communications, power generation and accommodation. The display spread beyond the building itself, so the structure was only one part of the effect that enemy aircrews were intended to see.
What you can see
The listed account describes separate operations and engine rooms. One supported control of the display and communication with the parent station; the other supplied power. Those different rooms help explain how the decoy worked.
The original lights should not be assumed to survive because their control building is recorded. Current condition and public access have not been confirmed. The map point marks the historical location, not an entrance, parking place or route across the surrounding land.
