The story of this place
Historic England describes a sandstone goods shed built against the station embankment for the North Eastern Railway. Large loading openings and different levels on either side helped with the movement of goods.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway advertises a tearoom in a converted goods shed at the station. Its account gives a different date from the listing. We have not yet confirmed how the two descriptions relate to the exact building.

The railway’s published visitor information covers the station and tearoom. Check its train and refreshment programme before travelling, and use only the public areas.
The listed shed’s loading doors and changes of level explain its former work, but the dating question remains open: Historic England gives about 1865, while the operator gives 1922. We have not chosen one as a confirmed construction date. Stay clear of tracks and staff areas around the working heritage railway.
