The story of this place
The drying-house range was built in 1809 for Benjamin Gott. Historic England describes iron roof supports intended to reduce fire risk and records a gas plant at the west end.
The attached engine shed has a different origin. It incorporates arches from Esholt sewage works, rebuilt at the museum around 1985. The buildings therefore bring together structures from different places and periods, rather than preserving one unchanged mill range.

What you can see
The museum setting helps explain both textile manufacture and the later work of preserving industrial buildings. The original mill fabric and the relocated arches belong to different chapters of that story.
