The story of this place
Beldi Hill Low Level was a mine and ore-processing site south of Keld. Historic England says the mine was probably driven in 1843 and certainly appeared on an 1857 map. The works continued until the early 1880s, when flooding helped end mining at the level.
Ore came from a horizontal tunnel. Workers tipped and sorted it, crushed larger pieces with rollers powered by a waterwheel, then washed the broken rock to separate useful lead ore. Water from Oldfield Gutter supplied the work and carried waste towards the river.

What remains
The scheduled monument spreads across terraces cut into a steep bank. The official record describes the tunnel mouth, waste tip, ore stores, wheel pit, washing floors and water channels. Some rails for ore tubs were present when it was surveyed.
These are archaeological remains, not a visitor facility. We have not checked current ground conditions or established a safe public route. Mine openings and unstable old workings must not be entered.

What we still need to check
The scheduled record describes surviving features at the time of survey. Current condition, safe viewing points and land access need local confirmation.
