At Swingate, one record spans more than one defensive story
A radar receiver site and a nuclear monitoring post share a designation title.

Read all the nouns
The Swingate entry names a receiver site, a Royal Observer Corps underground nuclear monitoring post and a former Chain Home radar station. It is tempting to simplify such a long title to “bunker”. Doing so would discard the very information that makes the record interesting.
The source title establishes several related features and roles, but not their complete chronology. The full official account is needed to distinguish construction, adaptation and later use. A single pin cannot adequately represent that sequence on its own.
A place can change its task
Use this record to ask how a site’s strategic value may persist while the equipment and purpose change. That is a research question arising from the combined title, not a claim that every element was operating at the same time.
When taking notes, give each named component its own line. Record the dates and relationships only where the source states them. This simple method prevents different military periods from being collapsed into one dramatic but inaccurate story.
Keep the record and the visit separate
The source’s public availability does not make the whole site a public destination. Heritage designation, present ownership and current use are different matters. Do not use a recorded coordinate as an entrance or attempt to reach restricted land.
