The central belt’s colliery records reach beyond the pit
A source title can connect extraction, materials and transport.

Read the classification list in full
The Cappers Pits record includes colliery, ironstone mine and tramway classifications. That combination immediately offers a broader research direction than a single mine marker. It points towards several kinds of work or infrastructure recorded at one location.
The list does not explain the entire relationship or chronology. “Period unassigned” must remain unassigned until another source supplies evidence. A useful story starts by preserving those limits rather than making all the components contemporary.
A point can stand for an extensive history
The spatial index provides a reference location. It does not necessarily outline the full extent of workings, buildings or transport connections. This is a critical distinction for extraction sites, where the recorded activity may not fit inside a compact visitor destination.
Compare the source’s named components and follow its underlying record for more detail. If you want to connect a colliery with a nearby canal or railway, look for an explicit historical link. Proximity makes the question reasonable; it does not answer it.
What survives is a separate question
A recorded colliery need not retain standing machinery. The seed does not certify survival or present condition, even when the classification is precise. Keep the history of the activity separate from the condition of any remains.
This collection is most useful as a structured reading list for the region’s industrial landscape. It lets you compare the terminology and source coverage across several sites, then deepen the strongest stories. It does not provide access to mine workings, private land or unverified surface remains.
