The story of this place
This pillbox watched the A62, the Pennine road linking Huddersfield and Manchester. It was built around 1940 or 1941 as Britain prepared for a possible invasion. Historic England says it belonged to a defended locality guarding the narrow route, rather than to a long continuous stop line.
Its builders gave it an individual design. Stone cladding and a turf-covered roof made the concrete and brick shelter blend with the nearby field wall. Openings in its walls gave defenders views towards the road and across the slope.

What remains
The official listing records a rectangular building with a low doorway, brick interior and a concrete roof. Its account describes an overgrown approach at the time of inspection; that is historical evidence, not an invitation to enter.
We have not checked the building in person or established whether the track beside it is available to visitors. A listed-building description does not itself grant access.
