The story of this place
Willesborough Windmill was built in 1868 by John Hill of Ashford, according to Historic England. Its timber-clad upper structure stands on a substantial brick base, with a platform around it and an associated house below.
This type of building is called a smock mill. Its working floors provided space for machinery, storage and handling grain. The house and lower rooms show that the mill was a workplace with needs beyond the turning of its sails.
